Placements at FNH

Please note: We are only accepting applications for placements starting January 2027.

Before applying, please read the below information to find out whether a placement at Fawkner Neighbourhood House might be right for you.

What we offer

We offer placements for students who want to gain hands-on experience working at a small neighbourhood house committed to working with care and integrity.

Everyday can look different at Fawkner Neighbourhood House. On placement you can gain experience across many different areas of the house, including:

  • Meeting and greeting community members

  • Answering phones and supporting with enquiries

  • Talking to community members and understanding community needs

  • Leading a research project

  • Designing and leading an activity, program or workshop

  • Supporting groups and activities

Is a placement at FNH right for me?

We aim for placements to be a valuable growth experience - not something you endure because you have to. As a result, a placement at FNH might be right for you if:

  • Clear on your goals and what you want to achieve

  • Comfortable working in busy environments independently

  • Self-directed and can take initiative without anyone telling you what to do

  • Interested in leading your own little project or initiative

  • Seeking more than just a checkbox placement

  • Willing to push yourself and go outside your comfort zone

We’re a small team with limited resources. As a result, we:

  • Only offer placements that are between 1 - 3 days a week - we don’t offer full-time placements.

  • Can’t accommodate last minute placements.

I’m interested - how can I apply?

Before you apply, please note that we are:

  • Capped with the number of placements we can offer. Our availability can change depending on our workloads.

  • Can’t provide a placement to everyone who applies (even though we’d love to!)

  • Please allow us ample time for us to consider your application. Last minute applications are difficult to place.

Steps to apply:

  1. Submit an application using the form below. You are welcome to send a video or audio recording to jazz@fawknernh.org.au if you would prefer to answer the questions that way.

  2. If you are short-listed and we can accommodate your placement, we will invite you to an interview.

  3. If it’s a good match for both parties, we’ll invite you to do your placement at FNH.

We kindly request that you do not use AI for your application. Applications that showcase your natural voice and personality will go a long way - grammatical mistakes are welcome.
